Jallianwallah Bagh Massacre Day

Jalianwallah Bagh Massacre Day is a day that recognizes the tragic incident in Indian history that happened on April 13th, 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab, during the British colonial rule in India.

The reason why this day is called Jalianwallah Bagh is because it is the name of the public garden, the location where this massacre occurred. The word, “Bagh,” means garden in Hindi. Therefore, the name of this day has been named after the tragedy. During the massacre, the British soldiers fired for almost ten minutes, killing hundreds of unarmed civilians and injuring many more. The Jallianwallah Bagh Massacre was a pivotal moment in India's struggle for independence, and it increased tensions between Indians and the British. The unarmed Indians were assembled at Jallianwallah Bagh to protest the repressive Rowlatt Act. Rowlatt Act basically means controlling and limiting India with significant powers of the British. The Indians wanted and were demanding for independence.
