Sara Kwon, Member of Hidden Figures
Welcoming Note from Sara Kwon

Greeting to you all, my name is Sara Kwon (freshman), one of the members of the Hidden Figures.
When I was young, I was not a person who was tempted to work in promoting diversity and inclusivity in discussions surrounding global issues. When I was in 4th grade, I saw a YouTube ad from the UN, about plastic waste and its harm affecting our planet. Normally, I would have skipped the ad, but this ad touched my heart. It showed how we, humans were silently yet obviously destroying our natural habitat. My love for nature sparked anger and frustration. I acted immediately while others carried on with their ‘normal life’. I researched the UN organization and its purpose. Increasing more knowledge about UNSDG, I gained more confidence in contributing to their goals. However, I’m not alone anymore. Joining Hidden Figures aligns with my fellow peers' interest in exploring diverse perspectives on projects, news, and societal issues. My vision has grown through making active contributions to the UN SDGs, realizing how small voices can lead to an avalanche. I am eager to participate in Hidden Figures and believe it will broaden my perspectives and views even more, encouraging me to be more observant, improving my ability to form independent thoughts, and fostering meaningful discussions. Adding on, I am also ready to help, discuss, and take more action anywhere and anytime to help more people contribute to speaking their own small voices. I am excited about the opportunity of contributing and creating a space where everyone, regardless of background or location, can engage, share opinions, and collectively work towards a more inclusive and aware global community.
