Women's Day

“Human rights are women's rights, and women's rights are human rights.”
- Hillary Clinton -

Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8. This has been started and organized by the Socialist Party of America at the suggestion of activist Theresa Malkiel. It is celebrated to show women's achievements in the social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. Also, it brings attention to gender parity and women’s rights. Women’s Day represents, “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.”

However, these days, in 2021, the theme is “Choose to Challenge.” Even though the pandemic is going on, people could contribute and participate by having a hashtag in social media by writing #ChoosetoChallenge or #IWD2021 (which is International Women’s Day) or #EachforEqual. To promote the elimination of female genital mutilation, coordinated and systematic efforts are needed, and they must engage whole communities and focus on human rights, gender equality, sexual education, and attention to the needs of women and girls who suffer from its consequences.
