Zero Discrimination Day

"It is crucial for all of us to join hands, stand up and defend the principles of inequality and human dignity."
- Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres -

Discrimination as a whole is known throughout the world and it varies from inequalities in sectors like race and gender to nationality and ethnicity. It comes in all forms and is commonly originated from societal norms. To further elaborate, societal norms and stereotypes are standards that determine how most people view the world, society, and individuals. Some examples can be the beauty standard of being skinny or gender roles where women and men are "responsible" for different matters. Therefore, Zero discrimination day is a day to highlight the urgent need to take action to end the inequalities surrounding multiple aspects that continue to persist around the world. The reason why the symbol is a butterfly is that a butterfly represents transformation and we would like to bring change to society. Although this is a small gesture, it can help others be aware of this problem and that is a big step from today.
