MS Service Assembly

This Middle School Service Assembly had hosts, Hidden Figures, and Felix. The theme was UNSDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

We both volunteered for this assembly because the theme and overall topic were connected to us. As you all know, Hidden Figures focuses on inequality which also relates to health. For Felix, they are centered on mental health, therefore, we were the hostesses. In the assembly, we talked about the different parts with the UNSDG spotlight, the severity, announcement with the MSAs (Middle School in Action), the celebratory days of April, and an interview with the guest speaker.

First, with the UNSDG Spotlight, we have introduced a video from Barcelona Institute for Global Health. After that, we have explained it in more detail. "Over 40 percent of all countries have fewer than 10 medical doctors per 10,000 people; over 55 percent of countries have fewer than 40 nursing and midwifery personnel per 10,000 people." With this have been stated, we moved on to the Smile MSA, which they have won 2nd place from the competition sponsored by the Korean Research Sleep Society. The title of the video was called World Day of Sleep Video. It clearly showed the significance of the amount of sleep we, children need.

Next, we had Philippine Service Learning a video about the COVID-19 Food Relief Program that has been featured as one of the zero hunger. It has been shown on Youtube and various tv channels around approximately 30 countries on March 21, 2021. Projects at the Zero Hunger Conference (EcontroFomeZero) in Lisbon Portugal are organized by the Teens for Unity and other NGOs.

Then, we talked about Hidden Figures, a video that we prepared for International Safe Motherhood Day. International Safe Motherhood day is also inter- connected with UN SDG number 3 as women's
suffrage from pregnancy and childbirth is a significant issue that should be addressed within the health
sector as well. Following up, for the celebratory days of April, they were World Health Day and Stress Awareness Month. World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on April 7, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization, as well as other related organizations. In 1948, the
WHO held the First World Health Assembly. Since taking effect in 1950, the celebration has aimed to create awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health
Organization. Stress Awareness Month is held every April for 28 years, to increase public awareness
about both the causes and cures for the modern stress epidemic. The theme for Stress Awareness Month
2021 is ‘Regaining Connectivity, Certainty, and Control’. The 30 Day Challenge celebrates and reinforces the meaning of well-being. It requires you to pick one action each for your Physical, Mental, and Emotional well-being for 30 days, helping you carry out beneficial habits.

Last but not least, Felix had a guest speaker called So Sung In interviewing questions about mental health. She was the psychologist at the Hanyang University Family and Child Development Center. The questions were: Why is teenage mental health important? How does positive/negative mental health affect their life? How do we improve the quality of teenage mental health? How does social media impact students' mental health? How could we control our emotions and mental mood swings? What are the effects of sleep deprivation on teenagers' mental health? While watching this video, we were really able to learn thoroughly about our own mental health as a teenager and tips for making it better.

With that have been said, it was the end of the assembly. Throughout this great experience, all of us were very proud of ourselves and want to learn more about things related to health.
