World Human Rights Cities Forum
World Human Rights Cities Forum is a forum where different professionals come together to discuss about human rights and discrimination, encouraging a brighter, better future.
The Secretary-General of the UN (United Nations), Antonio Guterres has given a speech for the forum of World Human Rights Cities.
The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the worst situations that we, humans are currently facing. The COVID-19 just started with a health problem, however, has gone further to affect the humanitarian and economic severity as well; and it has shown the weakness of our society as well as the seriousness of inequality happening to the whole world. Therefore, he believes that this forum can bring up a solution or success in solving this global issue for a better society for everyone.
Peace and Human Rights
Based on the speeches of Peace and Human Rights stated from Lee Jaesung, Standing Commissioner of Truth and Reconciliation Commission Professor of Konkuk Law School, and Yang Keumsik the Director of Archives of Korea Democracy Foundation has reminded me of a lot of things. I didn't know that the victims of these unequal rights can be divided into political, economic, social, and ideological for it to be discussed of how to solve and have recognition. In addition, I didn't know the history and past actions of justice and equal rights with South Korea. There were anniversaries, amendments, and movements as well with the theme of "bringing justice." Therefore, I was able to receive ideas as to how to take more action and realized the importance of learning about history to take one step further.
Act on Human Rights Policy
With the speeches of the Act on Human Rights Policy from Hong Sungsoo, Professor of SookMyung Women's University, Kim Soo A the Director of Human Rights Policy Division in Ministry of Justice, and, Na Hyunphil, the Director of Korean House for International Solidarity, I was able to learn more about significances, challenges, and, frameworks that have been made upon the idea of this theme.
In company with the significance and challenges, the history of the Acts on Human Rights Policy has been mentioned, and what was made upon this amendment. Based on these parts, it ended up with a consensus of promoting human rights. In addition, it talks about the National Action Plan for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (NAP) consists of 7 different kinds of framework chapters: purpose and idea, establishments, detailed procedures, roles, and educational matters. Learning about these objectives, made me realize that this plan has been the main key to building up this encouragement with human rights.
Disability
The speeches from Byun Jaewon, the Policy Director of Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination, and Choi Seonyeong, the Director of Welfare for the Disabled Division of Gwangju Metropolitan City have given me another impression and a new perspective of people with disabilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has made the whole world into shocking chaos however, this situation was especially difficult and vulnerable for people who have disabilities.
Having this been said, I was a bit shocked with the severity of the hospitals as in with the people who have disabilities due to the widespread of the coronavirus. There was also a tragic incident that happened to the disabled woman and her child caused in death and therefore, the GMG (Gwangju Metropolitan Government) has created programs as well as detailed plans that can support these people. Listening to this made me think that we, as the organization of Hidden Figures should also take action in helping and preventing these issues from happening.
Right to Food
Based on the speech from Michael Fakhri the Special Rapporteur on Right to Food of United Nations I was able to identify that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a big change within the food systems and once again emphasized "the right to food." I was able to identify that food is still a wide global problem and needs big actions taken for it to be solved. Therefore, as a leader of Hidden Figures, I am willing to build up more fundraisers and donations also related to food.
Summary, Last Opinion
The overall forum has made me realize a lot of things related to justice and equal human rights but, one of the most significant parts was the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic. I mean I knew that it has affected the whole world with chaos but didn't know that the small detailed parts in the society are also in a very dramatic situation. Like what has been mentioned in the previous sections, as a leader of Hidden Figures, I am willing to build up more actions, such as fundraisers, donations, more experiences as in actually going there for support will be the things that are going to be focused on when leading this organization.
